The Trip Off the Rock

Everyone looks forward to the trip off the rock. Everyone. But where does a person go from the Virgin Islands?

Most of my time away from here revolve around family, friends, weddings, and funerals. I guess you could call that the "important stuff", but that is just my view. Seems others choose the dates and reasons more than I do myself.

But this year was a little different. It took a little bump in the right direction from a close friend, but he rallied my senses and got me motivated for my ten day Stateside tromp.

First, it was to Vegas to support Brett Balber at the World Series of Poker. Of course I love to play cards as well, and we had a great group of five doing just that. Kudos to Brett for nearly making the money, though he fell just short, getting knocked out with about 900 people left out of nearly 7000 entries. Great playing Balbs.

For those of you that know I like to play cards, I also had much success. I entered a 97 person tournament at Aria Casino and ended up winning, pocketing nearly $6K. Not bad for this little shark from the island of St. Thomas- playing against several top notch Vegas pros and others around the world.

After Vegas, I was off to San Francisco to visit my older brother Jack and his family. What an awesome time, though keeping up with two boys ages 8 and 10 is not as easy as it was when I was younger. Thanks for the hospitality Boeger clan. We headed into NAPA one day, a baseball game the next, into the city for some tourist action one day, and much more. We also got to do a little work on the website, as my brother Jack is the creator(along with Vincent Lesh- kudos to you Vince) and is constantly upgrading the site.

Well, I guess the purpose of this blog wasn't just to tell you what I did for my own personal vacation, but also to let you know that people from the VI do go away for vacation. Our choices are many, and no matter where we go, we do like getting off the rock once in a while. But it doesn't change the fact that we love to return, and there is no better place to call home.
