Stupid Tax: Powerball in the Virgin Islands

Yes, I pay my stupid tax. I know what I am doing, also, and it is worth it for me. They say dreams are free, but they are invaluable if they are realistic, so I am willing to pay for mine. The real question here is, what would I do if I actually won Powerball.

Well, I can tell you this. If I lived in the States and won Powerball, I would move to the Virgin Islands. I guess it goes without saying that I would continue to live here whether I have millions of dollars or nothing- or anywhere in between. So part number one of the question is answered.

I don't think I would stay in the same house, though. Don't get me wrong, I love my house. It has great views, wonderful neighbors, and is as much as I ever need in life. That doesn't mean there are not other places on the island I would rather live than my current home. There are many choices for St. Thomas real estate, and I would make one of them.

First choice, when it comes to homes for sale, would be either Estate Peterborg or Water Point. Two homes in particular I am referring to. I don't know which one I would like more, they are different and amazing in their own ways. So, in no particular order......

See this large estate in gated Water Point: http://stthomasre.com/st-thomas-real-estate/phenomenal-estate-in-desirab... We are talking about nearly three acres on the Eastern most tip of the island. Over 1000 feet of amazing waterfront property with a small pocket beach, great access to the water, true snorkeling in your backyard. This location is as good as it gets. Water Point is known as the most secure and affluent neighborhood on the island, with an incredible beach, pavilion, boat dock, and tennis court. There are neighborhood deer, tree boas, and other wildlife. These are three separate connected properties with a four bedroom home on the middle property.

Being that I only buy Powerball tickets once it is over $100M, the $7M price tag is far from a deterrant. Actually, it would be the best money I could spend. I firmly believe in the value of this property and see no higher end parcels on the island, period- for sale or not.

But Water Point is not the absolute first choice. There is also "Orion's View" within Red Rock at Estate Peterborg. This is also a gated community of high end homes, and I love not only the proximity to Magen's Bay, but also the incredible down island views. http://stthomasre.com/st-thomas-real-estate/spectacular-home-in-red-rock... Orion's View is the most amazing home. No other home I have seen on the island can compare to this home. I have yet to see any St. Thomas home that is more pristine and well maintained. There is incredible artwork, artifacts, and furniture. The interior design is extremely tasteful. Each and every room is designed to soak in views from heaven. The master bedroom has his/her baths and closets. Downstairs has a full hardwood floored gymnasium and wine cellar. You name it, this home is first class in absolutely every fashion.

So, as you can see, this would be a very tough decision. But these two homes give the best options on St. Thomas for high end real estate purchases. And as for powerball tickets, for a couple of bucks every month or two, once the pot gets above $100M, it is worth my stupid tax to keep the dream alive.
