Oil Spill Does Not Affect the Virgin Islands

The oil spill in the Gulf is extremely unfortunate. An economic disaster of huge proportions. I hope for the sake of the environment that this gets fixed quickly, as it has already been going on far too long.

There typically wouldn't be a need for me to even discuss the spill from down here in the Virgin Islands. There is plenty of press about the issue already. But I have noticed recently that a lot of people are wondering whether such a large spill has had or will have any effect on the waters surrounding St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix.

The answer is NO. The oil spill is so far from our waters that we will not be affected whatsoever. There is not and there will not be any oil washing upon our shores whatsoever. There will not be any tar balls floating to our shores. No oil covered Pelicans cleaning themselves off in our trees.

To those looking to visit the islands, PLEASE COME ON DOWN. We have incredible white sand beaches and a perfect climate. The waters are crystal clear with world class snorkeling and diving. This is the World's largest outdoor playground, with dozens of small cays and islands all around St. Thomas and St. John, with the British Virgin Islands just a stone's throw away. Sorry Gulf Coast, I am sorry for what you are going through. I cannot imagine what it would be like to see such a tragedy down here in the Caribbean, it would be absolutely devestating. If any of you want to come down and visit during the time it is unsafe to visit your beaches, you will be welcomed with open arms.
