St. Thomas Named a Top Fishing Spot

A website specializing in serving the charter fishing industry has picked St. Thomas as one of 12 best fishing spots in the Caribbean for 2020.
Allison Arthurs, spokeswoman for FishingBooker.com, told the Source Tuesday that St. Thomas’ surrounding waters have “prestigious and sought-after fish.” She said the island has diversity with “both inshore and offshore fishing.”
“Offshore, targeted species are marlin, mahi mahi, sailfish, tuna and wahoo, while inshore species include kingfish, bonito, barracuda and yellowtail snapper,” she said.
FishingBooker has been naming top fishing sites in the states for three years. This is the first year the business has ventured into the Caribbean, according to Arthurs.

She said St. Croix and St. John were also under consideration when the decisions were made “but St. Thomas really excelled with customer reviews in 2019, which was why this spot made the list.”
According to a news release from FishingBooker, the list was based on several factors, such as user reviews, quality of fishing and overall experience.
The news release also said FishingBooker is the world’s largest website for booking fishing charters.
Included in its list of the 12 best Caribbean fishing spots in the Caribbean are:
– Castries, Saint Lucia;
– Montego Bay, Jamaica;
– Buccoo Point, Trinidad and Tobago;
– St. Michael, Barbados;
– Freeport, Bahamas;
– Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic;
– Fajardo, Puerto Rico;
– Noord, Aruba;
– Willemstad, Curacao;
– St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands;
– Providenciales, Turks and Caicos;

According to its news release, FishingBooker is the world’s largest platform for connecting anglers and fishing guides, with more than 30,000 fishing trips available in more than 1,950 cities worldwide.
