Seriously, what is it like living in the Islands?

How do I answer this question? I think I have been asked thousands of times over the years. I doubt I have ever had the same answer twice. But I can summarize it by declaring that I don’t want to know what it is like NOT living in the Islands.

Yes, we have our issues here. They make me drive on the left side of the road. The bartender will change the channel on the TV in the last minute of a tie game to watch the weather report. Monday night football doesn’t even start until 9:30. Cell phones work sporadically. I change my brake pads every other oil change.

Reality, though, is waking up and looking out at the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Watching the hawks circle overhead with eyes staring at the sunbathing iguana outside your window. Walking outside at any time of the year in your birthday suit and being perfectly comfortable (at least with the temperature). Passing by strangers in the street who greet you with “Good Day.” It is these realities that dictate what it is like living here. It is these realities that generate the desire to really enjoy life.

Over the life of this blog, I plan to address specific issues about life in the Islands. Please, if you have any questions, feel free to let me know. My goal is to help you all understand both the rewards and tribulations that residents here may encounter on a daily basis.
