Animal Care in the Islands

I am sitting at home this morning writing this blog, wasting a little time before I take my precious little doggie Shadow to the vet. She has always had a hip problem, common for shepherds, but had also torn her ACL. So two weeks ago, she had it repaired.

Sailing....

Had the pleasure of joining some friends for a sail yesterday.

First off, it was honking. Like 30 knots. Whitecaps were steady, with occasional very large waves. My little 17 foot Twin Vee would not have been happy. Luckily, I was SAILING on a large catamaran.

Current Real Estate Market in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands

Opinions may vary on the St. Thomas Virgin Islands real estate market right now, but I figure my opinion carries more weight than the average persons. I live it each and every day. And you know what? I like what I see.

Rolex Regatta

Rolex Regatta. St Thomas Yacht Club's favorite week of the year. This one has been going for a long time. I don't know how long, but I remember my first participation back in 1992, now twenty one years ago. And it was already a classic back then as I recall.

Petting the Turtle

All the sick minded people can stop reading right now, the title is not a euphemism for something else. This is seriously about petting a turtle. Or should I say THE turtle.

This was one of the largest Hawksbills I have ever seen. Seriously. It was huge. We picked up a mooring at Maho Bay, and a minute later saw it surface. Until I saw it up close and personal while snorkeling, I didn't realize how large it was.

Vacation Rental Funnies

This blog won't be very good, just going to tell you that right now. It is the end of the day, and I am ready to leave the office. To really make this a good blog, I would need to really think about all the funny stories over the years. But I didn't know what to write, so I'll just throw out a few tidbits and try to come back to this subject later.

The Island is ROCKIN

The Island is rockin these days. Really really busy. Seems like there are people everywhere, because, there are... Let's make it clear- this is awesome. I hope the restaurants, hotels, shops, and everyone else is making good money because of it.

But how does it affect someone like...me? Well, I need to think ahead if I want to go out to dinner. That is important if you don't want to wait for a table. Especially at a popular restaurant.

How about traffic? Well, the downtown area gets really busy with the cruise ship visitors. So driving down there isn't all that desirable. But hey, it never is as far as I am concerned.

The ferry or barge to St. John? I went over on the barge last Saturday, and it wasn't bad at all!! No long lines, no long wait. But it was Saturday, and I wouldn't expect there to be a long line without as many work trucks.

What really makes a difference is REAL ESTATE SHOWINGS. These have been very busy. And often, it is simply visitors trying to get an idea about properties down here, that may not be really serious about buying. But I have learned that you never know. And the increase in showings has been welcomed with open arms.

Of course, as expected, our vacation rentals have been packed. Always the case this time of year. And it is also welcomed with open arms.

So welcome everyone, and keep the island rockin as long as possible.

WRITE MORE BLOGS!!

Why don't I write more blogs?

Well, reason number one is we actually work down here in the Virgin Islands. Even real estate agents work. At least some of us do. It isn't all about drinking rum (though much of it is), nor am I on a boat everyday (though when I lived on one, I was). Beach volleyball is fun, but in my old age, there are other things more important and necessary to help pay the mortgage.

Football is back, and the bars are busy

Football is back, and the bars are busy. I can't imagine how many more chicken wings are sold at this time of the year, but it must be a substantial difference. And the sports bars are loving it as much as the people that watch football.

Happy Anniversary Marilyn

September 15, 1995, dates a memorable day for the Virgin Islands. Hurricane Marilyn ripped thru the territory as a catastrophic hurricane. To say that it changed some lives in an understatement. Just as most Americans can tell you where they were on September 11, 2001, most Virgin Islanders can tell you exactly what was happening on this date 17 years ago.
